MacKid Will Be There!!! This Week is FULL!!!

By Lena Kane, Managing Editor October 18, 2017

Well, I have to say that this week is a rush of Hobby Lobby visits for craft supplies, preparation and places to be. Sunday will be a day of naps after this crazy week!

Thursday, the MacKids and I will be having an especially busy day. The East Lake County Library is hosting its usual homeschool book clubs beginning at 1:00 pm offering 2 levels of age groups. Ms. Elizabeth does a great job! We will be there to supply a little fun with a macaroni skeleton craft. The Twincesses have been practicing their skills to help the little MacKids who will be there. Macaroni is a very flexible crafty material. Moms all cherish their many macaroni necklaces that we have been blessed with through the years, don’t we? They do go with everything!

Thursday evening at 7:00 pm, we get to have a theater night at the Bay Street Players YPT program. They will be presenting “Guys and Dolls, Jr.” which is one of those shows that is full of energy, cons and twists of gangsters on the edge of being legit…for “Dolls.” Some of you may remember the classic song “Luck Be a Lady;” well, this is its origin. I have faith that the young cast they have can carry the weight of Frank Sinatra and make him proud. We have some pretty talented young people in North Lake County! There may be some tickets left that you can purchase by clicking here. I suggest you grab them quick. The youth shows come and go so quickly after all the hard work they put in! Thursday, Friday and Saturday they offer a  7:00 pm show; Sunday will be a 2:00 pm matinee. Oh! Don’t forget to pick up your tickets before you go eat because last time, I missed out on a discount at 1884 Restaurant in downtown Eustis. I won’t miss it this time.

We are missing out on one event that deserves a ton of attention only because I had tickets to the theater before I knew about it. Florida Waterman Hospital has put together an amazing walk/run. It is the 4th Annual Pink Out 5K Run/Walk which will be held in downtown Tavares. The race begins at 6:00 pm with ceremonies at 7:15 pm ending roughly at 8:00 pm. We have members of our family who survived breast cancer. Events such as these are imperative to making progress in research, but more importantly it reminds the survivors and families that they are important to all of us! If you have not gotten a mammogram, please call your doctor and stay "abreast" of your options for early detection. Proceeds from this 5K event will help promote breast cancer awareness, diagnosis and treatment including mammograms for women in need. Be a part of the solution!

Finally on Saturday, we cannot wait for the 18th Annual Florida Wildlife Festival in Umatilla! I cannot believe it is here so quickly. I actually need a clone so that someone can work in our booth helping little ones make crafty bird feeders while I actually enjoy the hikes, paddles, presentations and, of course, all the little ones running around in bear vests learning what it is like to be a black bear in the wild! Check out the schedule on the site provided here, so you can plan the things that you want to see most. The Twincesses and I have practiced making several types of crafty bird feeders to invite colorful friends into your backyard. They cannot wait to help entertain your MacKids with their projects.

Well, off to prepare all the craft materials, banners, tent and tables for the week’s insanity! I cannot wait to wear your little ones out! Don’t worry; I will post lots of pictures so you can try the crafts at home.

We will see you there!
