Lady of the Lakes Renaissance Faire

By Lena Kane, Managing Editor October 4, 2017

North Lake Macaroni Kid sat down with The Educational Foundation of Lake County Tuesday to get the scoop on what the Lady of the Lakes Renaissance Faire has to offer. WOW! I have been missing out! Luckily, we will not miss it this year and I have tickets to giveaway to our Macaroni Kid readers!!! If you cannot bear the idea of missing it, please get your tickets in advance!  I am hoping to get some feedback and pictures from your experiences.

The Faire is comprised of a period-authentic cast of characters, some historically based. There are drama department kids from our schools who had to audition, learn about the time they are representing, and then create their character with stories in preparation for the event. They have been working on this since August. That is amazing dedication! Also, the area schools provide 20-25 students each to work in the food booths preparing turkey legs and other faire fare (see what I did there?). Last year, the food profits alone brought in $63,000 to support our teachers and schools.

Speaking of education, there is a day devoted to educating our children about the time period. There are lesson plans and experiences from 9:30 in the morning to 1:00 in the afternoon on October 10th to engage and immerse our children in history. Do not miss out on this part because it is only $5 per person! Homeschoolers…this is a must see and I believe it is a day off from school in some areas, so now you have something amazing to do as a family.

There is a Fairy House Contest for you to submit your best little creations for a grand prize worth $150. The MacKids and I are definitely planning our participation in this event. My girls are dreaming up some crazy imaginative things already. Luckily, there are size constraints; otherwise we would probably end up with a whole fairy town.

Quests…these are fantastic for kids, teens, and families. Whether you want to participate in the Fairy House Quest or the King’s Crusade Interactive Game, you will be challenged to uncover clues and get to your objective. This will be a great way to not miss out on anything the faire has to offer.

The MacKids are also losing their minds about the unicorn especially when they found out they could talk to it! The squealing in the truck as we drove away was glass shattering!

There is honestly too much to this event to tell in one little article. So, we will be building the excitement through the month of October so that you are well prepared and get the most from this local Faire. The impact this event has on Lake County Schools is incredible, and the Economic Development Counsel lauds the event as a direct spending economic impact for our area of over one million dollars. This does not account for all the indirect spending of visitors while they are here.

We cannot wait to see you all there! I look forward to giving away some tickets to our reader base!
