When the temperature in Central Florida climbs and the pool water feels like bath water, my favorite place to cool off is one of the many springs nearby. Bubbling up from Florida’s aquifer, the springs’ temperatures hover around the 70 degree mark. Our top three springs are:
Rock Springs/Kelly Park offers full service concessions, picnic pavilions, and playgrounds. Tent and RV camping are also available. Though our preferred activity is grabbing a tube and relaxing. Tube rentals are available outside of the park. Admission is $3/vehicle (1-2 people); $5/vehicle (3-8 people); $1/additional person/walk-ins/motorcycles/bikes. Deleon Springs: This springs is definitely the favorite with my kids. They love making their own pancakes on the tabletop grills at the Old Spanish Sugar Mill Restaurant. In addition to the unique dining experience, this Florida State Park offers canoe, kayak and paddleboat rentals. Additionally, visitors can swim, snorkel, hike or, go fishing. Picnic tables, grills, a playground, and a butterfly garden are also available. If you find you have more time available, children can become a junior ranger or your family can take a Eco/History boat tour. For more information visit them online here. Alexander Springs: Located in the Ocala National Forest at 49525 County Rd. 445 in Altoona, Alexander Springs offers swimming, hiking, camping and cabins, fishing, and picnicking. Canoe and kayak rentals are also available. For more information visit their website here.
