Fort Christmas Historical Park

Situated in Christmas, Florida, the Fort Christmas Historical Park is the home of various historical and recreational opportunities. On our recent trip with a local homeschool group, my boys and I received an informative tour of the restored homes and what life was like in rural Florida from the 1870s-1930s. During the interactive school program, my boys had the opportunity to experience the self sufficient life of Florida's pioneers. Our group dipped candles, washed clothes, pumped water, ground corn and churned butter.

After the school program, we took a self guided tour of the rest of the grounds. Fort Christmas was by far my sons' favorite part. The replica of the 1837 fort was originally built during the Second Seminole Indian War. Today, the fort houses a museum with exhibits on the Second Seminole War and the settlers of Fort Christmas, Fl.

My favorite part of the trip was strolling through the majestic oaks, pines and palms of the Historical Park. In addition to their historical ammenities, the Fort Christmas Historical Park also boasts a playground, a 1920's ball field, playground, volleyball court, tennis court, basketball court, horse shoe pits, and picnic tables. With special events planned throughout the year, my family will definitely be planning a return trip.
