As the families began to arrive, the first stop was to drop off their pre-owned books so that they could exchange it for another book for their family. As they were checking in, the kids (and moms) got to guess how many Cheerios filled the jar. The winning family not only took home the jar of Cheerios but they also won a basket of books and a couple of boxes of delicious Cheerios.
Our goal at the play date was for moms and their children to enjoy literacy, developmentally appropriate activites, and of course Cheerios. As the families rotated to the nine Cheerios based stations that were set up around the perimeter of the park it was evident that we had acheived our goal. Babies and toddlers raced trucks and used toy animals to explore the Cheerios sensory bin. Moms sat on blankets reading great books to their children. Preschoolers couldn't get enough of the Cheerios Collage station. What is not to love about Cheerios and glue? Another favorite, was a great small motor skills station. The children placed Cheerios onto strands of spaghetti and stacked them as high as they could. This station took patience and practice to get the job completed. The moms and children who attended this event enjoyed sampling Chocolate and Apple Cinnamon flavored Cheerios. I'm pretty sure the shevles at the local store were emptied at the end of the day. Many of the moms said they were heading straight to the grocery store after the play date to purchase a box of their very own!
