Countdown to Camp Horizon

An exceptional choice for summer camp

There certainly are camps for every kind of child. From sports camps and drama camps to baton camps and computer camps, the choices can be daunting. How does a discerning parent choose for their little camper? Each kind of camp can serve in a different way in developing certain character traits and skill sets...some good and occasionally,  some not so good!  It's important to research your camps carefully before you make a decision. However,  if you are looking to strengthen your child's faith and increase their knowledge of God, all while enjoying the wonderful amenities of a traditional away camp (with a few extras thrown in!) then look no further, you've found it in Camp Horizon.

Founded in 1970 and located just two miles south of US Highway 441 on South Sunnyside Drive in Leesburg, Florida, the grounds of Camp Horizon are surrounded on three sides by a Cypress and Oak forest, with the fourth side by a half mile of pristine shoreline on beautiful Lake Harris.

There are plenty of exciting activities to keep campers busy at Camp Horizon, and all of the traditional camp activities are present at this wonderful camp. Plus, the spiritual content is built right in to the program! From morning devotions with staff to bible memory verses during rest hour, these elements are not only character building but are also and important part of the fun, team competition! At each meal there is also a short devotional and campers will enjoy both contemporary and classical songs at the beginning of chapel time. Every staff member has a testimony of faith in Jesus Christ and kids are surrounded by people of faith who love them and love the Lord!

There's no shortage of amazing activity at Camp Horizon either, here are a few family favorites!

Swimming: Camp Horizon provides a large, both ends shallow pool. Great for games and instruction!

Canoeing: The Youth and Varsity campers may choose to go on a canoe trip at the end of the week.

Sailing: They have a variety of boats including Sunfish, Hobie Cat, and Day Sailer!

Archery: The archery range is nestled back in the forest. This is a popular camp activity for all ages!

Riflery: We use air rifles for the Junior Camps and 22s for the older camps.

Handicrafts: What summer camp would be complete without one or more projects for campers to keep and take home!

Other camp choices may include:

Soccer
Volleyball
Basketball
Games (Variety)
Drama and/or Music
Nature
Physical Fitness
Bible Study with the Speaker

To get more information on Camp Horizon, you can view the full brochure right HERE!

It's Bug Season!

According to the National Pest Management Association, an unseasonably warm winter is expected to bring bugs and pests out of hibernation early this year, meaning we’re in store for prolonged mosquito season. Rather than turning to toxic bug sprays to fight against mosquito-borne viruses like West Nile and Eastern equine encephalitis (EEE), Mom’s everywhere can count on PIC® to help protect their families from dangerous mosquito bites with two unique products that provide maximum protection with all-natural ingredients that don’t need to be applied to skin.
TWIST-IT® is a new flexible device that repels mosquitos by wrapping around essential summer items such as umbrellas, beach chairs and strollers. TWIST-IT® is great for family picnics or backyard fun without the presence of irritating mosquitoes and for those who are wary of applying toxic repellent chemicals to skin. TWIST-IT® keeps mosquitos away in a 10 ft. radius for up to 200 hours.
Bugables® Mosquito Repellent Stickers are perfect for kids and can be adhered to items including hats and clothing. Bugables® work by emitting an 'aura 'of all natural, plant-based essential oils, masking human odors that attract insects. Containing 100% all-natural repellents, Bugables® are sold in fun shapes and colors, and are perfect for parents who want to protect their children from the harmful toxins like DEET in conventional mosquito repellents. Bugables® last for up to 72 hours and are reusable

The suggested retail price for TWIST-IT® is $5.99 and for Bugables® Mosquito Repellent Stickers it is $3.99. TWIST-IT® and Bugables® are available at more than 10,000 retail outlets, including Walmart, Walgreens, Toys R Us and Bed Bath & Beyond. For more information on TWIST-IT® and Bugables®, please visitwww.facebook.com/TwistItMosquitoRepellent.

Hunter’s Helpers team for Autism Speaks Walk will be holding a raffle and luncheon fundraising event on June 9th, 2012 at the Tavares Civic center from 12:00 to 2:00 pm. Similac SimplySmart Bottle Review

Bottle feeding a baby? Look no further! I just tried the brilliant new bottle by Similac called the SimplySmart™ Bottle!  The crew over at Similac partnered with Moms to find out what they really wanted in a bottle and then, they gave it to them! The Similac SimplySmart baby bottle accommodates a variety of nipples to fit your baby's feeding needs and is available in 4-oz and 8-oz sizes. Plus, it's BPA-free!

It boasts a feature called Intellivent™ that reduces excess air that can lead to fussiness and gas, always a good thing for baby's tummy! The SmartClose™ locks out leaks, and the blue shield lets you know it is closed securely! Plus it has anEasyMix™ device that minimizes clumps and bubbles. My favorite feature though is the  Similac On-the-Go™ powder cap* which holds enough formula for one convenient feeding and fits on top of the bottle in place of the standard cap! Easy button for moms on the go!
I can't help but mention the really comfortable design in my hand as well. Easy to clean and baby was super happy with it! (as you can see!)

We give the Similac SimplySmart Bottle the Macaroni Mom Seal of a approval! You can find out more information right HERE!
